FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Road Classics.

How does the race and sportive style work?

We want Road Classics to be a great experience for everyone. We know that ideas about the perfect cycling experience can be varied. That's why we're going the route of two formats. The sportive style is there for those who don't care about overall time. They want to approach the ride in a more enjoyable, relaxed way, they like to chat in the pack or their goal is simply to finish. Ambitious people who want to ride the saw, to surpass themselves and to be on Jested in the shortest possible time will welcome the race option. In this option you will compete with other racers and squeeze everything out of yourself. But if you hit the limit and run out of energy, nothing happens at all. You can go through the course at whatever pace you see fit.

What's the minimum speed I can go?

Whether you're a racer who assesses on the trail that your legs aren't performing to your liking that day, or a rider from the sportive format, an average of 16 kilometres per hour will do. The route of the premiere monument has some pretty challenging first few kilometers. But you don't have to worry that if you go much slower than the average at the beginning, your pilgrimage through the Jizera Mountains will end shortly after the start. A reserve and then a stop for refreshments are counted. You should reach the 94th kilometer - the top of Jested - within six hours. If the collection van does happen to catch up with you, you can of course keep pedalling. You just won't be timed anymore and you'll get into traffic. You can get a lift if you want.

How experienced a cyclist do I need to be to complete the route?

Let's not hide anything, the route with an elevation gain of 2350 meters cannot be categorized as very easy. That's why we recommend beginners who bought a bike a week before the race to try a route with a similar profile first and, if necessary, start training and wait for next year. But if you are already a bit familiar with road cycling and you have done a similarly challenging route before, then we believe that you will be able to handle everything without any problems and we will see you at the finish line.

How was the entry fee set?

The entry fee is set with our main goal in mind - to offer a unique road race experience, and to make it sustainable for the organisers in the long term. Because we have big plans for the Road Classics series. We want to offer all road cyclists a level of cycling that has never been seen before in the country. This includes the high costs, largely associated with the complete closure of the route to motor vehicles so that you can enjoy the experience absolutely safely. A big thanks goes to our partners, whose long-term support allows us to keep the entry fee significantly lower.

What about the unmeasured range? Why is it necessary to go down to Liberec after the finish on Ještěd?

We believe that the spectacular finish of the official - measured - part on Jested is a great attraction, the main source of experience. At the same time, this beautiful hill is not inflatable, it is too modest for all stuff we and you need. Therefore, for capacity and safety reasons, the best solution is for the cyclists to enjoy the triumphant feeling at the top - take a photo, eat something - and then slowly make their way down with their bikes, making room for others. The advantage? It´s practically pedal-free ride, you'll hit 100km mark, and you can kind of feel like a pro on a Grand Tour, because even the stars at the biggest events often still head back to the saddle and ride up the valley after the mountain stages are over. Just watch out! From the tram turntable under Ještěd to the centre of Liberec you will ride in regulated traffic.

What are segments?

Segments are measured sections inserted into the race route. You may know their analogy from the sports app STRAVA, where athletes measure themselves against others or their own past results on interesting segments of varying length. On Road Classics, these are marked sections measured over and above the overall time. Are you a climber or more of a sprinter? Here's your chance to show what you've got. You can find their location on the route here.

How will the segments be evaluated?

In addition to the overall time, participants of the race can also focus on segments - two climbing and one sprinter. Because the all-around cyclist who accumulates the most points overall on the three timed segments will be the King of the Segments and will receive a unique jersey. The jersey, of course, will go to the Queen of the Segments as well. And there's a chance to dress in colour for the sportive format participants. If they want to take a break from the lounging, relaxing, coffee or cake stops and tasete the race, two timed hills and one sprint will allow them to do just that.

How many refreshment stations will I find along the route?

Six in total, three of them larger. The first awaits you in Bedřichov, another in Smědava, followed by Oldřichovské sedlo, Kryštofovo Údolí, Ještěd and then the finish in the centre of Liberec.

How will the start take place?

In two waves. The first to leave Liberec will be the racers, followed by the participants of the sportive style.

Can I ride a gravel bike or an e-bike?

Yes. With a gravel you are a full-fledged racer, we measure your total time or segments. We also give e-bikes the green light, you just, for understandable reasons, can't measure yourself against the others. If you are still interested in participating, please contact us at info@roadclassics.cz.
